Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day - February 2016
As our host for this monthly meme, Carol of May Dreams Gardens, is fond of quoting from the esteemed gardener Elizabeth Lawrence, we can have blooms every month of the year. But in late winter, even a mild winter like we are having this year, they do get a bit sparse.
As we head into the last third of winter, my zone 9a garden still has not had a freeze. It's been a very strange winter indeed.
What has winter been like where you live? Or, if you are in the southern hemisphere, what has your summer been like? On next Bloom Day, we'll be getting ready for the change of seasons. Just a few more weeks...
Happy Bloom Day and thank you for visiting my garden this month.
We can depend on the violas, of course. Sweet little flowers! |
They bloom in several colors in pots around my yard. |
These are next to the patio, where I can enjoy them when I'm lounging in my favorite seat. |
This pot has a little bit of every color. |
Along the back fence, the antique rose, 'Old Blush,' is flowering. |
Another of my roses that is blooming now is the David Austin rose, 'Molineux.' |
Beside the garden shed, 'Peggy Martin' rose is in full flower. |
If it is February, it must be Carolina jessamine time. This vine next to the patio will be covered in these yellow blossoms in a few days. |
And in its corner of the garden, the Cape honeysuckle, normally dormant at this time, is still sending out fresh blooms every few days. |

Happy Bloom Day and thank you for visiting my garden this month.
Your blooms are a welcomed sight while the ground is covered in snow here. Happy Bloom Day!
ReplyDeleteWell, enjoy your snow - spring is "marching" toward you!
DeleteBeautiful! Especially the Roses!
ReplyDeleteHappy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!
Lea
Thanks for visiting, Lea.
DeleteIt still looks like summer to me... :)
ReplyDeleteIt would be summer-like in some places, I'm sure, and most days lately feel like late spring here.
DeleteI'd call these blooms anything but sparse! It's always a treat to see all your colorful blooms this time of year. We've been in a deep freeze for awhile and had a light snow yesterday, so I doubt I'll see anything blooming here for quite awhile.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that y'all have been having a REAL winter recently, unlike our faux one. Stay warm! Your garden is probably enjoying a nice, deep sleep.
DeleteWinter in Los Angeles was pretty cold with many nights close to freezing. Unusual. But now we are having record high temps, wind, and super low humidity in Feb. My red azalea got it first blooms yesterday! It lives right outside my dining room window and is supposed to cheer me through the February gloom. This year it is cheering me along with an early spring.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always called violas Johnny Jump Ups. We would pick them for her on Mother's Day when we were little.
Johnny Jump Ups is a popular name for these little flowers. It seems to fit them. They are truly one of my favorite winter bloomers.
DeleteEnjoyed your roses and your Johnny Jump Ups. That David Austin rose is stunning. Too bad Japanese Beetles love roses as much as I do. Happy GBBD and thank you for the blooming beauty on a dreary Upstate New York day.
ReplyDeleteHappy to provide you with some spring, Alana. Don't worry. It's on its way north.
DeleteYou have plenty of blooms for this time of year.
ReplyDeleteThanks again to our very mild winter.
DeleteNice, thank you for bringing this to us
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, Martin.
DeleteAll of your blooms are beautiful but I particularly enjoyed the violas.
ReplyDeleteViolas are among my favorites, too.
