Throwback Thursday: The debate that wasn't

Thinking of doing another Throwback Thursday post with a blast from my blogging past, I was trolling through my blog entries from five years ago when I came across this long-forgotten entry.

The year 2011 was the beginning of another of our interminable presidential election cycles. The events of that year and 2012 have pretty much been obliterated from my memory, replaced by the news of another of those seemingly endless races, and I had completely forgotten about the time that Donald Trump was going to host a debate featuring the various Republican candidates aspiring to be the nominee!

Yes, that really happened. Or, actually, it didn't - for very Trumpian reasons.

My husband, the prophet, still predicts that Trump will pull out of the final debate this year. Will he be proved correct? Time will tell.

The debate that wasn't

So now Donald Trump has pulled out of his own debate! The Donald announced to his slavering public today that he would not, after all, be moderating a debate between Republican candidates for president later this month. The reason he gave was that he wants to keep his options open should he decide (in his infinite wisdom) that the eventual nominee of the Republican Party doesn't have the right stuff. If that is the case, the Donald wants to be able to jump in and run as an independent in order to save the country.

The only Republicans who had consented to show up for Donald's debate were Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, but I'm sure that the lack of enthusiasm among the other candidates for appearing on the same stage with Donald Trump's hairpiece and ego had nothing to do with Trump's decision to call the whole thing off. No, Trump is motivated strictly by his deep patriotism and desire to be of service to his fellow Americans. What a guy!

  1. I forgot about the 2011 incident. Your description of it made me smile. My husband shares your husband's status as prophet and is in agreement about the final debate. As you say, 'Time will tell.' P. x

    1. I think we've purged some of those incidents from our memories because there is only so much Donald that we can take!

  2. There has been an overload of Donald Trump in the media since he announced his candidacy. I just wonder what will happen if he becomes president. His mouth has always gotten and will get the best of him.

    1. There doesn't seem to be a pathway to his mouth from his brain - assuming that he has one in working condition.

  3. Oh no, what a picture. The pathway from Donald's mouth to his brain. Thanks a lot Dorothy. I have sworn off any more debates.

  4. Now that things have taken an interesting turn...I actually stayed up until after midnight (eastern time) to see the video response The Donald was going to release. Nothing surprising. And now, part 1 zillion of the reality show called "this year's election, but it really isn't a reality show folks, it's reality" will take place Sunday.

    1. The man has lived in a protected bubble for his entire life - a place where he is never wrong and can do no wrong. And a place where he never needs to apologize because it is always somebody else's fault. He is a disgusting excuse for a human being.
