My reading year
It turns out that 2024 was a pretty slow reading year for me. I had set my goal at 40 books which was less than half the number of books I had read in past years, but I didn't even manage to hit that target. I ended the year having only read thirty-four books.
Nevertheless, I was generally quite happy with the ones that I did read. I rate my books from one to five stars, but it is very rare indeed for me to rate a book at five stars and I almost never have a one-star read. I didn't have any five-stars or one-stars in 2024; however, I did have fourteen that I gave a four-star rating and eighteen that were three-star reads for me. Two were a bit disappointing and I only gave them two stars.
For 2025, I'm setting my goal at 40 books once again which I do realize is quite paltry compared to most of my blogging friends. But this year I'm going to try a little harder to actually reach it. Wish me luck!
Are you on Goodreads?
ReplyDeleteYes.
DeleteA numerical target is only part of it, Dorothy. Quality is what counts. And of course if you read “War and Peace” it takes at least a month to get the names straight and the rest of the year to read the book!
ReplyDeleteIn fact, when I read "War and Peace," (I think I was twelve) I finished reading it and then turned around and read it again. Twice! I think it probably did take most of my year. At least it kept me out of trouble!
DeleteI don't set reading targets and don't record what I read, either. Reading is for pleasure and information. If it were a competition or a contest, I certainly wouldn't succeed.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it isn't a competition or a contest, but I like to set targets for myself as a way of staying on track. And I do record and review every book that I read for Goodreads and this blog. I find it a useful reference. Perhaps your memory is better than mine...
Delete34 books is great. Most important is that you enjoyed the books you read. Happy reading this year! :D
ReplyDeleteTrue. I didn't read any that I considered real stinkers last year. Here's hoping for the same result this year. And a very happy reading year in 2025 to you, Lark.
DeleteI don't keep track of books read and I don't participate in reading challenges. Reading for me is like breathing - a necessary part of life. The past few months I've not read any books but I hope that changes in 2025. Good luck with your goal, Dorothy. 40 books to me would be a lot.
ReplyDeleteNow that’s odd. You say that reading is like breathing - a necessary part of life, but that in the fast few months you have not read at all!
DeleteIt's hard for me to imagine going months without reading a book, but I realize that sometimes life intervenes in our plans.
Delete34 books read is fantastic! It sounds like you read some quality reads. Good luck with reading 40 books this year!
